<p style="text-align:left;">I have never seen the TV show, Friday Night Lights.</p>
<p style="text-align:left;">Just kidding, I watched 50 hour-long episodes in 4 days this week.  Pop Culture Blind Spot: Slightly smaller.</p>
<p style="text-align:left;">Also confused with: Friday Night Lights, the movie.  Which I will not watch, because no one else has.</p>
<p style="text-align:left;">&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;</p>
<p style="text-align:left;"><em><strong>Friday Night Lights</strong></em> is an American <a title="Television program" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Television_program">television</a> <a title="Serial (radio and television)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_%28radio_and_television%29">series</a> adapted by <a title="Peter Berg" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Berg">Peter Berg</a>, <a title="Brian Grazer" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_Grazer">Brian Grazer</a> and <a title="David Nevins (television producer)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Nevins_%28television_producer%29">David Nevins</a> from <a title="Friday Night Lights: A Town, a Team, and a Dream" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friday_Night_Lights:_A_Town,_a_Team,_and_a_Dream">a book</a> and <a title="Friday Night Lights (film)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friday_Night_Lights_%28film%29">film</a> of the same name. The series details events surrounding the Dillon Panthers, a <a title="High school football" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_school_football">high school football</a> team based in fictional <a title="Dillon, Texas" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dillon,_Texas">Dillon, Texas</a>, with particular focus given to the team&#8217;s coach, <a title="Eric Taylor (Friday Night Lights)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eric_Taylor_%28Friday_Night_Lights%29">Eric Taylor</a> (<a title="Kyle Chandler" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kyle_Chandler">Kyle Chandler</a>) and his family. The show uses this small-town backdrop to address many issues facing contemporary <a title="Middle America (United States)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Middle_America_%28United_States%29">Middle America</a>.</p>

<p>I have never seen the film, &#8220;Goonies&#8221;.</p>
<p>What I know about it:  It&#8217;s a movie released in the 80s about 10 teenage boys.  They possibly go off in search of some treasure.  Faint mental image of a pirate ship stranded underground.  Also, there is a human-like monster of some sort with a weird face.  The term &#8216;Goonies&#8217; either refers to the boys or the pirate monsters, pretty sure.  One of the two.  Unclear. </p>
<p>Also &#8220;Goonies never say die&#8221; and &#8220;Heyyyyy you guyysss&#8221; are things to be yelled. </p>
<p>Also confused with:  The Newsies.</p>
<p>&#8212;&#8212;</p>
<p><em><strong>The Goonies</strong></em> is a <a title="1985 in film" href="http://popcultureblindspot.wordpress.com/wiki/1985_in_film">1985</a> <a title="Cinema of the United States" href="http://popcultureblindspot.wordpress.com/wiki/Cinema_of_the_United_States">American</a> <a title="Adventure film" href="http://popcultureblindspot.wordpress.com/wiki/Adventure_film">adventure</a>-<a title="Comedy film" href="http://popcultureblindspot.wordpress.com/wiki/Comedy_film">comedy film</a> directed by <a title="Richard Donner" href="http://popcultureblindspot.wordpress.com/wiki/Richard_Donner">Richard Donner</a>. <p>I have never seen any of the Die Hard movies (except the new one).</p>
<p>What I know about them:  Most of what I know comes from <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OTyw6cq86kY">this song</a>.  Bruce Willis plays John McClane, a police cop who has to rescue his wife from terrorists who take over a building.  At one point Bruce Willis walks barefoot on glass (sounds needlessly staged).  All the movies sound the same, but each one has two things in common:  At one point he says &#8220;Yipee-Kay-Ay, motherfucker&#8221; and it&#8217;s always Christmas.  Except in the last one he didn&#8217;t say &#8216;motherfucker&#8217; and it wasn&#8217;t Christmas. </p>

<p>What I know about them:  Lead singer (guitarist?) Dave Grohl looks funny.  He has large eyes and teeth.  He dresses up in ladies&#8217; costumes in their videos.  One time he was a flight attendant in a video (Possibly &#8216;Learn to Fly&#8217;?).  He has long hair.  There are other members of the Foo Fighters who are not Dave Grohl.  Their identities are not known.</p>

<p><strong>Foo Fighters</strong> is an American <a title="Rock music" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock_music">rock</a> band formed by singer/guitarist/drummer <a title="Dave Grohl" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dave_Grohl">Dave Grohl</a> in 1995.<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foo_Fighters#cite_note-AMG-0">[1]</a> Grohl formed the group as a one-man project after the dissolution of his previous band, <a title="Nirvana (band)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nirvana_%28band%29">Nirvana</a>, in 1994. Prior to the release of <em><a title="Foo Fighters (album)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foo_Fighters_%28album%29">Foo Fighters</a></em> in 1995, Grohl drafted <a title="Nate Mendel" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nate_Mendel">Nate Mendel</a> (bass), <a title="William Goldsmith" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Goldsmith">William Goldsmith</a> (drums), and <a title="Pat Smear" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pat_Smear">Pat Smear</a> (guitar) to complete the group. <p>I have never seen &#8220;The Hunt for Red October.&#8221;</p>
<p>What I know about it:  It&#8217;s a movie based on the Tom Clancy book, starring Gene Hackman as a US submarine captain, presumably hunting some sort of Soviet submarine. That&#8217;s pretty much it.  It&#8217;s a game of cat and mouse, and was a really popular movie, as is my understanding.</p>
<p>Also confused with: Clear and Present Danger.</p>
<p>UPDATE:  Gene Hackman isn&#8217;t in &#8220;Hunt for Red October&#8221; OR &#8220;Clear and Present Danger&#8221;.  Why did I think he was?  There&#8217;s definitely a mental image of Gene Hackman in a Marine&#8217;s uniform in a sub.  Am I thinking of &#8220;McHale&#8217;s Navy&#8221;?</p>
<p>UPDATE 2: &#8220;Crimson Tide&#8221;!  &#8230;I have no idea what that one&#8217;s about.</p>
<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;</p>
<p><em><strong>The Hunt for Red October</strong></em> is a <a title="1990 in film" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1990_in_film">1990</a> film based on the best-selling <a title="The Hunt for Red October" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hunt_for_Red_October">novel of the same name</a> by <a title="Tom Clancy" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Clancy">Tom Clancy</a>. It was directed by <a title="John McTiernan" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_McTiernan">John McTiernan</a> and stars <a title="Sean Connery" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sean_Connery">Sean Connery</a> as Captain Marko Ramius and <a title="Alec Baldwin" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alec_Baldwin">Alec Baldwin</a> as <a title="Jack Ryan (fictional character)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Ryan_%28fictional_character%29">Jack Ryan</a>.</p>
<p><em>The Hunt for Red October</em> received mostly negative critical reviews from many major publications upon its theatrical release but was one of the top grossing films of the year, grossing $122 million in <a title="North America" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_America">North America</a> and $200 million worldwide. The film won the <a title="Academy Award for Sound Editing" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Academy_Award_for_Sound_Editing">Academy Award for Sound Editing</a> in 1991.</p>

<p>I have never seen an episode of Daria.</p>
<p>What I do know about it:  One of the first shows to appear after MTV embraced the idea that it was a teenager channel instead of a music channel.  Stars a teenager who&#8217;s super serious.  She makes smarmy and clever comments, I&#8217;m assuming.  Because her arms are crossed!  And wears glasses!  Unknown voices, unknown cultural impact.</p>
<p>Also confused with:  Angry Lisa Loeb.</p>
<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;</p>
<p><em><strong>Daria</strong></em> was an <a title="United States" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States">American</a> <a title="Animated television series" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Animated_television_series">animated television series</a> that ran on the <a title="Cable television" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cable_television">cable network</a> <a title="MTV" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MTV">MTV</a> from 1997 to 2002. Created by <a title="Glenn Eichler" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glenn_Eichler">Glenn Eichler</a> and Susie Lewis Lynn, the series about a smart, acerbic, and somewhat <a title="Misanthropic" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Misanthropic">misanthropic</a> <a title="High school" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_school">high school</a> girl was a <a title="Spin-off (media)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spin-off_%28media%29">spin-off</a> of MTV&#8217;s animated <em><a title="Beavis and Butt-head" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beavis_and_Butt-head">Beavis and Butt-head</a></em> (1993-1997). The series was widely praised for versatile storytelling and for well-drawn characters[<em><a title="Wikipedia:Citation needed" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed">citation needed</a></em>], took many satirical jabs at high-school life, and was full of allusions to and criticisms of popular culture, especially then-current pop music.</p>

<p style="text-align:left;">I have never seen an episode of Beavis and Butthead.</p>
<p style="text-align:left;">What I know about it:  It&#8217;s about two high school dudes who sit around talking in either a low, nasal or a high, grated voice.  They speak in sentence fragments and created a wave of annoying impressions.  Something about &#8220;cornholio&#8221;.   I could happily live without ever watching this show.</p>
<p style="text-align:left;">Also paired with:  Ren &amp; Stimpy.</p>

<p>I have never seen the movie Labyrinth.</p>
<p>What I do know about it:  It&#8217;s a movie about a girl who&#8217;s trapped in a Labyrinth for an unclear reason.  How she got there, why it exists and what she is pursing is unclear.  It is apparently very scary, as almost everyone my age is still traumatized from having seen it.  The whole movie has weird fleshy Muppets in it.  Also David Bowie is there, the fleshiest of all the Muppets.</p>
<p>Also confused with:  Captain Eo.  [EDIT:  As <a href="twitter.com/rewby">@rewby</a> points out, I really really confuse it with &#8220;The Dark Crystal&#8221; (which I have also never seen).  I considered them to be so similar as to forget that &#8220;The Dark Crystal&#8221; actually existed.  Is it a sequel?</p>
<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;</p>
<p><em><strong>Labyrinth</strong></em> is a 1986 <a title="Fantasy" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fantasy">fantasy</a> film, directed by <a title="Jim Henson" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Henson">Jim Henson</a>, produced by <a title="George Lucas" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Lucas">George Lucas</a>, and designed by <a title="Brian Froud" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_Froud">Brian Froud</a>. Henson collaborated on the screenwriting with children&#8217;s author <a title="Dennis Lee (author)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dennis_Lee_%28author%29">Dennis Lee</a> and <a title="Monty Python" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monty_Python">Monty Python</a> alumnus <a title="Terry Jones" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terry_Jones">Terry Jones</a>. The leads are <a title="David Bowie" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Bowie">David Bowie</a> as Jareth the Goblin King, and <a title="Jennifer Connelly" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jennifer_Connelly">Jennifer Connelly</a> as Sarah Williams. The plot revolves around Sarah&#8217;s quest to rescue her little brother from the Goblin King while trapped in a world that is an enormous otherworldly maze. Most of the other significant roles are played by puppets or by a combination of puppetry and human performance. It was shot on location in <a title="New York" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York">New York</a> and at <a title="Elstree Studios" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elstree_Studios">Elstree Studios</a> and <a title="Hampstead Heath" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hampstead_Heath">Hampstead Heath</a> in the <a title="UK" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UK">UK</a>. It was the last feature film directed by Henson before his death in 1990.</p>
